Lesson 4

60 min/week
Purpose:  Students will  be able to use either “ser” or “estar” to describe a specific characteristic of a person or thing.

In Spanish, adjectives change to match in gender and number the noun they are describing. Adjectives that end in -o have to consider the gender and number of the noun they are describing. Adjectives that end in anything else are gender-neutral, but still need to match in number.
Ejemplos:
Los chicos son bajos.
>>Los chicos is masculine and plural, so bajo changes to bajos to match.
La mujer está nerviosa.
>>La mujer is feminine and singular, so nervioso changes to nerviosa to match.
Las niñas son jóvenes.
>>Las niñas is feminine and plural, so joven changes to jóvenes to match. Joven does not end in -o so we do not need to consider gender, only number.
