Week of October 30, 2017
Principal's Message: Dear Henry Community, Be sure to join us for our Halloween Hustle Monday, October 30th from 4:00 - 5:00. This Tuesday, October 31st, students will be allowed to wear Halloween costumes with parent approval. However, it is important to remember the following: 1. No face paint. 2. No masks 3. No toy weapons of any kind. If your child would like to bring a treat to share, the candy has to be store-bought (No peanuts please). We can only have 2 events where non-nutritional store-bought items can be distributed to students If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call the office. The end of the 1st Quarter is this Thursday. There will be no school on Friday, November 3rd. Parent teacher conferences will be November 15th. Due to our great work Personalized Learning, our partner, LEAP Innovations, will be bring some educators interested in learning about our systems and structures that we have implemented so far as part of our Breakthrough Grant Program. They will be coming on November 8th. The Office of Teaching & Learning is sponsoring a program called "PL In Depth" for schools who are interested in piloting Personalized Learning. The PL department will bring educators from other CPS schools to visit Henry. The purpose is for other CPS colleagues to learn about the Henry journey and model. Thanks to the hard work of our students and teachers, they want to showcase and highlight all the progress we’ve made with PL since we started piloting a few years ago. The PL department will be sponsoring these school visits throughout the year. The first of these visits will be the weeks of November 13th and 27th. Our school is one of 80 Chicago Public Schools taking part in a program called Vision for Chicago. As part of Vision for Chicago, Johns Hopkins University (JHU) is partnering with Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Department of Public Health to study how school-based eye care impacts academic performance and to help make sure that students who need eyeglasses receive them and wear. As part of the project, JHU researchers will visit Henry up to four times this year to observe how many students are wearing glasses. There will be no names recorded during the observations; researchers will simply scan the classroom to count how many students are wearing glasses out of how many students present.
