TRY THIS AT HOME:
1. RESEARCH THE DAY OF THE DEAD: This level shows decorations and candles from el Día de los Muertos. If you haven't read about it already, research it online! It's a beautiful holiday that celebrates life. People confuse it with Halloween, but it's focused on memories rather than scaring people.
2. WATCH A MOVIE: Though they're set in Mexico, the movies Coco and The Book of Life both take place during el día de los muertos! Watch both and make a venn diagram. How are they similar? How are they different?

1. SWITCH TO NON-FICTION: Lexia recommends that students reading at a fourth grade level and above switch their reading habits to take in more non-fiction. So, read informational text! You could even take a virtual field trip: We can't go to Greece right now, but you can take a virtual field trip! Make a country research project! Find out sites to visit in Greece, the kind of money they use, learn some Greek phrases, find it on a map or learn about its climate!
2. FLASHCARD GREEK ROOTS: So much of the English language comes from Greek (and Latin) roots. If you learn Greek roots, you learn hundreds of English words! Try writing down Greek roots on pieces of paper, in columns. Then, think of all the words you can that use those words, and write them below in a list. If you can't think of any, try googling the root and see what you find! Use level 20 roots like: derm, therm, hypo, hyper, hydro, crat, mania, photo, macro, mega, micro, neo, poly, mono, gon, deca, phil, anthro, pyro, stat, pod, morph, nym and cycl. For example, hydro is is HYDRate and HYDRant!
